Those Were The Best Days of my Life

Playing in the sand,
Without a care in the world for all the dust and grime.
Two small, grubby hands held together
The bond of friendship was forged forever.

Sitting beside each other in the same bench
Laughing and sharing each other’s lunch
We were always one, as thick as thieves,
Two little rascals were we, with always a trick up our sleeves.

Copying notes for each other and giving proxies
We went through college with a song on our lips and eyes full of dreams.
Consoling each other, we even survived through all the heart aches
With tears in our eyes we learnt to laugh at our own mistakes.

When she met the man of her dreams and fell in love
I was a tad jealous because, my place beside her was taken away from me
A fool I was to not see, that friends never part, their bond is for eternity.
Love and friendship are two sides of a coin; both are needed to live happily.

We laughed, we cried, we grew up together,
We loved, we fought, holding hands we learnt to fly free.
We have come a long way, seeing each other through all the lows and highs,
Looking back, that’s when I realize, oh, those were the best days of my life.

The Wonder Years, Part II: Crush-a-Thon

If you have already read my earlier post on my wonderful college days, then you know that I love to embarrass myself, and if you have not read it, then you can read it here.
So to continue my embarrassment saga, I will narrate few stories of my crushes and how I developed my crush on them. Let me warn you that this post may come across as silly but that’s how I was then (and maybe now too, I keep getting these episodes of madness now and then, nothing serious).
So there was this really cute and handsome guy who used to commute in the same bus as me. I never knew his name, because as you would know, by reading my earlier post, I never got to talking terms with my crushes, which is really sad.
So coming back to my bus guy, he was damn cute, but the problem was that he never noticed me although I tried hard to catch his attention(don’t ask me how, you wouldn’t want to know, trust me). Maybe it was his indifference that attracted me more. So I decided to go the extra mile to make him notice me. I scrutinized his appearance and that’s when I noticed this really cool bead bracelet that he wore on his wrist. So I decided to get an exactly alike bracelet. I went on a wild-goose hunt and after few weeks, I got an exact replica of the bracelet.
The very next day I wore it proudly and jostled against the sea of human bodies (the buses were crowded) to find a place next to my bus guy. He was seated and finally I got a place to stand next to him. I was holding the seat in front of him, so that he could have a clear view of my pretty bracelet. My strategy worked and he looked up to notice me and you know what, when finally his stop came, he made sure that I took his seat and he even smiled at me too. I was on cloud nine that day. I had safe guarded the bracelet for many years in memory of my bus-guy. Anyway, my crush for my bus-guy faded away but I found a new love for bead bracelets.
Then there was this guy who was doing his diploma in the same college that I was doing my engineering. His name was Guru (I came to know through some common friends; again I never spoke to him). It so happened that one day I was travelling from college alone in bus(Its true almost all my crush stories are related to buses), when I noticed a guy standing near the footboard. He had the most awesome-ly wavy and silky hair that I have seen till date. And I developed a crush on him the very moment. It was just like in films, except maybe the hero falls in love with the girl with the soft, wavy hair. Err, to continue the story, I found out some facts about this guy and came to know his name, what he was studying and so on.
Then one day, I and my friend were travelling in the same bus that my wavy-hair guy was commuting in. We were sitting in the 3 seater seat and I was continuously eyeing my guy, when suddenly the passenger sitting next to me got up to board off the bus. I prayed fervently hoping that my crush would sit next to me, when suddenly a guy plopped next to me in the seat. I darted my eyes and saw that it was Guru. I was so happy that I jumped in my seat, so that I could cover the remaining space between me and him. Of course all that my action got from him was a weird stare. Sigh!
There are so many of my crush stories that I could actually write a book on it. Although I feel a bit silly now, it still gets a smile on my lips remembering about the incidents. Wish I could go back to college days, they were such wonderful days. Excluding the exams and internals, I mean.

Kaun DOMS???

I was not like this before. 2 years back when I landed in Bangalore, baggage and all, I was a naive, sweet and innocent girl hailing from a small town in Mangalore. In those days it took me a complete ten minutes to understand a non-veg joke. Ok, maybe I am exaggerating but I was slow when it came to catching the drift of double-entendre jokes. But as they say, the company you keep changes you even before you realize it, from the innocent, guileless girl who never understood such jokes, I became the queen of non-veg jokes. I have started to guffaw/giggle (depending on the intensity of humor in the joke) even before the joke is completed.
Like, few days before I was waiting for my turn at the counter in the canteen, all ready to order my cup of coffee. Our canteen also offers mini coffee and some gentlemen standing behind me in the queue decided to order mini coffees. Their conversations went somewhere on these lines.
Man1: Let’s order a mini coffee.
Man2: Oh, I dint know there was something called mini coffee, does it come in smaller cup size?
Man1: Yes, it’s smaller cup but tastes same and costs less. The regular coffee is almost the same cup size too.
Now, these gentlemen were discussing cup sizes in earnest and referring to only coffee, but it was enough for me to start a bout of giggling (which soon turned to a full-blown laughing session). Yes, I have become this one impudent lady who just cannot control her laughter (even in public) when hearing something even remotely resembling a non-veg joke.
I remember an incident that happened almost a year ago, when the joke was on me. It so happened that almost all of my colleagues were guys and I used to tag along with them for their ‘sutta’ break. I hated being a passive smoker, but I loved the tea that was served in the sutta shops. On one such day, we went on our morning break and one of the guys (let’s call him A) came up to me and was chatting with me. We used to converse in Hindi. Suddenly A told to me loudly
“Arrey Prasanna, wo DOMS tumhe doond raha tha”
I was confused as to who was this DOMS and replied to him in an equal loud voice “Kaun DOMS rey”?
It was only after these words left my lips that I understood what I had said. My face turned beet-root red and never have I been so embarrassed in my life as that day. All the guys had a good laugh at my expense and I would have never forgiven A, if I was not such a good sport. Also, A was a genuine guy with no mean bone on him so, it was difficult to remain angry with him for long. Even today I laugh out loud when I remember this incident.
Now tell me, do you blame me for what I am today. Such were the friends I had J
