About the story: Every girl’s worst nightmare
comes true for Poppy Wyatt when she loses her emerald engagement ring. It
doesn’t make things easier for Poppy that the ring is actually a family
heirloom of her fiancé, Magnus. Sick with worry, when Poppy tries to find her
ring, her phone is nicked by a thief. Under such dire and grave circumstances
when Poppy finds a discarded phone in a bin, she keeps it to herself thinking
that anything that’s found in a bin is fair game. But unfortunately for her Sam
Roxton doesn’t think so. Sam is a senior employee at White Globe Consulting and
the phone that Poppy has “found” belongs to the company.
What follows is a hilarious turn of events as
Poppy and Sam try to help each other with their problems by texting constantly.
As Poppy tries to blend into Magnus’s family (which consists of only professors
who write thesis and research papers on damn boring subjects) and hopes that
his parents accept her as their daughter-in-law, she simultaneously has to
organize the wedding preparations and find the engagement ring before her
fiancé or his family find out.
My Review: Chick lit for me are
like those enormous Baskin Robin sundaes topped with chocolate creamy sauce and
nuts that are ‘oh-so-sinful’ but yet you have a splendid time devouring it. There
was a time when I used to read nothing but chick lit books, I just couldn’t get
enough of them. It was almost like an addiction. So I started to consciously
avoid being stuck on one genre and tried to expand my horizons and read all
kind of the novels. But every now and then, I do keep returning to my favorite
genre.
This book has all the typical
ingredients that are necessary for a tangy-sweet chick lit potboiler- it has a
wedding, it has a handsome, mysterious man, it has girlfriend problems, it has a
cheating boyfriend and of course it has ice creams.
The characters in the book are
well defined, especially the character of Poppy Wyatt . I could relate to her
character because somehow I belong to that sad category of people who think pleasing
everyone is their job. Sometimes I feel that I bend over backwards too much to accommodate
other’s demands in my life. Ok, enough of my person rant, that deserves a separate
post.
The book is a definite must read
for all chick lit lovers. It’s a warm, charming, and seriously funny story. So
what are you waiting for girl? Go pick up this book, order a hot chocolate
drink coupled with a sugar coated creamy doughnut and dig into this wonderful
heartening romantic tale.
Verdict: A warm tale of love, friendship
and a lot of mobile conversations.
