April A To Z Challenge Day 24- X is for X'mas Spirit

As a child I used to love festivals, especially Deepavali, Dusshera and Christmas. For the first two festivals, all my cousins used to visit our native village and we had a gala time with whole family coming together to celebrate the joyous occasions. But I used to love X’mas too, the primary reason being that my mother’s best friend, Gretta aunty, used to send Christmas goodies to us. My brothers and I used to wait eagerly for the Plum cakes, the fried snacks, fruits and nuts and chocolates on 25th Decemeber every year.

A few times I had been to Gretta aunty’s house on X’mas and I was absolutely mesmerized by the lights, carols and the festive decorations. Of course studying in a Convent school for the first 7 years of my education, I was aware of the significance of Christmas and the story of Christ’s birth. And the fact that the school remained close for 10 days during Christmas, only made me love this festival more.

And after I joined IT, the only time we had some less work and permission from our managers to take long leaves was during the month of Decemeber. Since most of the IT companies are based out of US or UK, December is the time where the work would be relaxed and employees in India can take some much needed off-time. It’s another story that during our festivals, like Deepavali and Dusshera, we are expected to work if there is a release or a launch in progress.

You must agree that there is some magic about X’mas. It brings about a spirit of cheer and the holiday season is sure to brighten up our souls, for even those, like me, who don’t celebrate it.
