I'll
Be There Beside You
Chapter

Today’s
Idiom – Lie low
Meaning- If someone lies low, they try not to be
found or caught.
The
weekdays passed with great difficulty for me. Karthik and Santhosh kept
pestering me with their insane jokes about the state of my heart. While Karthik
took to singing love songs loudly in office whenever I was near, Santhosh would
call me from other’s phones, pretending to be Lalitha. I knew that their pranks
would fizzle out in due time, but I decided to lie low till then and
avoid them as much as possible.
So
it was with great relief, I walked out of my office on Friday evening. Lalitha
and I spoke daily on the phone and our conversation continued into late nights.
Lalitha and her mother were staying at Rashmi’s house in Bangalore and we
decided to meet in the morning at Rashmi’s place. I could hardly control my
excitement. I hoped that the day would go well. I wanted everything to be
perfect but life rarely moves the way we expect it to, right?
The
next day when I saw the dark ominous clouds in the sky, my heart sank and my
hopes for a perfect day came crashing down. When I reached Rashmi’s house I saw
Lalitha waiting for me. She was wearing a pink salwar kameez and I felt my
heart skip a beat. I don’t think that I have ever seen a more beautiful woman and
I considered myself lucky because Lalitha was not just gorgeous but she was the
perfect companion for me.
“Hope
you are comfortable sitting on my bike. Sorry, I don’t drive a car here since a
two-wheeler is best for Bangalore traffic.” I apologized as Lalitha looked
uneasily at my Pulsar bike.
“If
you’d prefer we can take an auto rickshaw”, I offered as Lalitha still hesitated.
Then
she looked at me and made up her mind. As she sat behind me on the bike, maintaining
a safe and respectful distance, I smiled and hoped that I could
bridge that small gap between us before the day ends.
