I'll Be There Beside You
Chapter

Today’s
Idiom – Kill Time
Meaning- to do something which is not very useful or
interesting while you are waiting for time to pass.
My
week started on a busy note. But during lunch time I met my friends from
office, Karthik and Santhosh, and announced the news of my engagement.
“Are
you already engaged? You didn’t even call us?” cried Karthik after many congratulations
and much clapping on the back.
“The
engagement will happen next month and the wedding soon afterwards. Listen,
Lalitha is coming to Bangalore this weekend and I want to take her somewhere
special. Do you have any suggestions?”
“You
can take her shopping in M.G.Road and then take her for lunch in a fancy
restaurant.”
“I
know this new discotheque which has opened in Richmond Road. Why don’t you take
her there?” Santhosh was a night owl and he was known in all the discotheques
of Bangalore on a first name basis.
I
didn’t think Lalitha was a girl who enjoyed going to fancy restaurants or
discotheques. I had to work on this one alone, I thought. I reached my PG room
at 7 in the evening and wondered how I’d keep myself occupied for the next
hour. Lalitha had said to call her at 8, when she would be alone at home.
To
kill
time I looked at advertisements in paper for an apartment for rent. I
would have to start looking out for a new house. Maybe I could line up a few so
that Lalitha and I could look at them next weekend. So much for special plans,
huh?
When
Lalitha called I picked up on the first ring.
“Hey,
how was your day?” she asked in her soft voice.
“It
was good. My friends asked for a party when they came to know I’m getting
engaged.”
“Really?
So where are you going?”
“We
thought we’d go to this new discotheque that has opened recently. We are
planning on Saturday night. You can join us, if you want.” Although I knew her
reply, I was still disappointed on hearing it.
“I
don’t enjoy parties or loud music or too many people crowding me. It gives me a
headache. But you go and enjoy. So do you party often?” She asked in an amused
tone.
“No
I hate discos too but my friends are insisting on it. What do you want to visit
in Bangalore? There are many places where you can shop or we can go to some
nice restaurants”
“Well,
actually the flower show is going on in Lalbagh grounds. I’d love to go there”.
Her reply brought a smile to my lips. Her simplicity and naivety had once again
won my heart.

ReplyDeleteKaleidoscope of Hopes
The flower show is the best option actually :) Might be a bit crowded for the duo, but it's worth going to.
ReplyDeleteAlso, lots of witnesses if needed :P Though like Aathira, I still find that bit a bit hard to believe too. :D
Really sweet this one. However, I can't stop wondering whom and why did she murder? :P
