I don’t remember the first time I had watched a Harry Potter movie but it almost seems like I have been crazy about Harry Potter ever since my birth. Yes, I am one of “those people” who can watch a Harry Potter movie thousand times and still not be bored of it. I have seen all the movies in this series but, sadly, I have not read the books.
It
amazes me when I realize the sheer genius and creative mind of J.K Rowling who
created this magical land of wizards and witches. Oh, how I wish I had even
one-fourth of her creative brilliance! Out of all the awesome characters in the
story, my favorite character would be that of Sirius Black. When he made his
prominent appearance in the ‘Prisoner of Azkaban’, he was the first person to
escape the dreaded Azkaban prison, and Harry wanted to seek revenge against
Sirius for betraying his parents, even though Sirius was their best friend and
Harry’s Godfather.

But at the end of that part we learn that Sirius never betrayed his friends and he, in fact, wanted to punish the person who had deceived them and killed Harry’s parents. Harry and Sirius develop a strong bond that strengthens over the years. Sirius’s character portrays so many shades; he’s kind, brave, rebellious, funny and loyal, not to mention handsome as a devil. When he died in ‘The Order of the Phoenix’, I actually cried and every time I see that scene it brings a lump to my throat.
Apart
from Sirius, I also love another character from Harry Potter series. Actually I
hated him in the first few parts, but his character kind of grows on you as the
story moves along. Yes, I’m talking about Severus Snape, the Potions Master at
Hogwarts. There’s a lot of confusion about Severus, if he is one of the bad guys,
or if he’s one of the good ones. Severus was a death eater under the Dark Lord
but after Voldemort’s power diminished he apparently came over to the good
side, aided by the faith that Dumbledore placed in him. But many people,
including Harry, did not trust Severus.
The always in a foul mood- Severus Snape :) |
It’s
only towards the end of the 8-part series (Deathly Hallows was made into a
2-part movie) we get to know the truth about Severus and then you just cannot
stop feeling bad about hating him in the first 7 parts.
I’m
crazy about Harry Potter series, and my idea of winding up a particularly rough
day is to watch any part of this series with a glass of wine in hand. How I
wish that it had never ended and Rowling would have continued to regale us with
the stories about wizards on brooms whizzing past the magical land of Hogwarts.
I am not a Harry Potter fan, though I have this special affection towards SNAPE! :D
